MESSAGE FROM THE PRIME MINISTER

AUSTRALIAN BAHÁ’I COMMUNITY BIRTH OF BAHÁ’U’LLÁH

I send my warm greetings to all celebrating the Birth of Bahá'u’lláh, prophet and founder of the Bahá’í faith.

Welcome, also, to those gathering online for the Australian Bahá’í Community’s annual parliamentary reception. I acknowledge the tremendous advocacy of Jason Falinski MP whose electorate is home to the Bahá’í House of Worship.

Australia’s Bahá’í community champions unity as our strength for today’s challenges and as our best hope for the future.

Your community reminds us that we nurture unity through works of selfless service. That each individual possesses the power to make change and achieve progress.

In the past 18 months, we have witnessed this truth time and again. When I wrote to you in April, I reflected on Australians’ flourishing awareness of our shared human vulnerability and interdependence, and the strength we draw from each other.

Through countless acts of caring and compassion, Australians have found ways to support one another throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.

Our resilience has been called many things — I call it the ‘Aussie spirit of community’ — but it is fundamentally shaped by a shared respect for our common humanity. Because of this, we have endured, and we are overcoming a period of crisis and calamity.

Thank you to the Bahá’í community of Australia for celebrating the rich and complex diversity of our nation, and the unity in which it thrives. As you do so, you live out the principles on which your faith was founded.

May your celebration of the Birth of Bahá'u’lláh bring joy and grace to your year.

The Hon Scott Morrison
MP Prime Minister of Australia
