“The conjunction of these three resting-places, under the shadow of the Báb’s own Tomb, embosomed in the heart of Carmel, facing the snow-white city across the bay of ‘Akká, the Qiblih of the Bahá’í world, set in a garden of exquisite beauty, reinforces, if we would correctly estimate its significance, the spiritual potencies of a spot, designated by Bahá’u’lláh Himself the seat of God’s throne. It marks, too, a further milestone in the road leading eventually to the establishment of that permanent world Administrative Centre of the future Bahá’í Commonwealth, destined never to be separated from, and to function in the proximity of, the Spiritual Centre of that Faith, in a land already revered and held sacred alike by the adherents of three of the world’s outstanding religious systems.” - Shoghi Effendi
Four members of the "Holy Family" are buried in this beautiful section of the Baha'i Gardens in Haifa: Ásíyih Khánum (the "Most Exalted Leaf", "Navváb"), wife of Bahá'u'lláh, their children Bahíyyih Khánum (the "Greatest Holy Leaf") and Mírzá Mihdí (the "Purest Branch"), and Munírih Khánum, wife of 'Abdu'l-Bahá.
To the galling weight of these tribulations was now added the bit a sudden tragedy-the prematue loss of the noble, the pious Mirzá Mihdi, the Purest Branch, Abdul-Bahá's twenty two year old brother, an amanuensis to Bahá u'lláh and a companion of His exile from the days when, as a child brought from Tihrán to Baghdád to join his Father after His return from Sulaymáníyyih. He was pacing the roof of the barracks in the twilight, one evening wrapped in his customary devotions, when he fell through the unguarded skylight onto a wooden crate, standing on the floor beneath, which pierced his ribs, and caused, twenty-two hours later, his death, on the 23rd of Rabíul-Avval 1287 A.H. Ásíyih Khánum
Ásíyih Khánum was born Ásíyih Yalrúdí the only daughter of Mírzá Ismá’íl Yalrúdí, who was a minister in court of the Sháh of Persia, highly influential and wealthy. Read More >

Munírih Khánum
Coming from the renowned Bábí-Bahá'í family; Nahrí Family, she was born in Isfahán. She was chosen at the age of 23, to be the wife of the Master, for whom she bore nine children. During her fifty or so years of marriage to 'Abdu'l-Bahá she became His beloved confidante. The ascension of 'Abdu'l-Bahá devastated her. Known by the friends as Holy Mother, Munírih Khánum served as the matriarch type figure after the passing of the Greatest Holy Leaf. Her diligent efforts of shielding her family from the Covenant Breakers helped her grandson.
